How to Secure a Place in Oklahoma City
by Sam Etsell
Coming into the show season, it is important for all riders to set goals. One goal that many NRHA and WRHA riders have in common is qualifying for the Adequan North American Affiliate Championships in November. This 10-day show in Oklahoma City not only offers the Adequan NAAC and the NRHA Futurity, but also an array of vendors and three NRHA horse sales. An important detail for riders to know is how to get qualified for this prestigious event. Riders can qualify for the Adequan NAAC by attending their Regional Affiliate Finals. To be able to compete in Oklahoma City, competitors must be in the top eight of their respective classes at the Regional Affiliate Finals. The qualifying events range from the NAAC Open all the way to the Adequan NAAC Silver Spurs Equine Rookie of the Year. Horse and rider combinations can qualify for multiple classes as long as they meet all the requirements. The WRHA was well represented last year by an array of riders. Kari Williams took home top ten honors in the NAAC Limited Open and NAAC Rookie Pro aboard Lena Nica. Holly Lansidel took home a top five finish in the NAAC 13 and Under riding Smart Like Steady. Congratulations to both these ladies, the WRHA is proud to have them representing the association! Dates are not currently set for the Northwest Regional Affiliate Finals. Once this information is available, it will be posted on www.NRHA.com. The Adequan North American Affiliate Championships will be held November 22nd through December 1st. As always, information on the WRHA can be found on the web at www.wrha.net or follow us on Facebook.
